THE BEACH ROAD.

In reference to the letter received by the Manawatu County Council from Messrs Holben and Kirk on Wednesday regarding the leaseholders who are anxious to get a road to Foxton Heads and stating that tha people interested are framing a petition for presentation to the Council and when completed a deputation will wait on the Council in connection with the matter, the chairman remarked that the position in regard to raising the loan was a singular one. It is recognised that the road is a very necessary one, but the rateable value of the property at present is not sufficient to raise a loan, and the only way to do was for owners to agree to a re-valuation. The Foxton Borough Council would no doubt make a substantial contribution to the cost, and if the individual ratepayers with property at the Heads would contria year in addition to a a special rate the work could be done, if the funds could be legally raised. The clerk was instructed to write the Valuation Department and ascertain if a re-valua-tion could be made of the properties on the Foxton beach.
