A general meeting of the local Amateur Dramatic Society was held in the Council Chamber on Thursday evening. Dr. Adams presided and there was a good attendance of members. It was decided to put into rehearsal at once both the comedy “Kleptomania” and the drama “Blow for Blow.” The first Wednesday in August was decided upon for the date for the production of the comedy, and the drama will be staged about six weeks later. The question of holding a ball was discussed and it was decided that a plain and fancy dress ball be held on a date to be fixed. All arrangements in connection therewith were held over until the next meeting.
A WELCOME PROPOSAL. LONDON. June 2. The proposal that the Coronation should take plate on Empire Day was well received in Canada and South Africa. Sir George Reid, interviewed, said it would be a most happy event if the ceremonial was fixed for the day which was more and more becoming associated with broader aspects of the Empire and the loyalty of its people.
