METHODIST CHURCH.
The quarterly meeting of th e Foxtou Circuit was held in the local church ou Wednesday last when twelve officials were present. The Rev. J. Clover presided. The report presented disclosed a very satisfactory state of affairs, the total receipts, inclusive of

f . seuted a report of her work at Shannon, which showed marked progress ; attendances at services had more than doubled and there are signs of deepened interest iu the welfare of the church by the people generally. The Sabbath School has increased in the number of children attending and there are now about 65 scholars on the roll- Sister ||Bell attends the public school in conjunction with the Presbyterian minister every Thursday afternoon to give Bible instruction to the children. A
baptismal service was held during the quarter, conducted by the Rev. v I*. J. Mairs, six children being baptised. Communion service was also held with satisfactory results. The income for Shannon was £l6 i os. Various matters affecting the church were duly considered. One new departure contemplated was the attempt to form a Methodist Brotherhood, which is to receive attention during the ensuing quarter. It was suggested by the Rev. P. J. Mairs that with a view of developing the social life of the church and contingent upon the co-operation of the young people, a series of free entertainments be held during the winter. The officials of the past quarter were re-elected with the addition of Messrs K. Walker and G. Houore, elected as society stewards for Foxtou. The tea meeting in the schoolroom at 6.30 was well attended, the table presented a very tempting appearance, being presided over by Mesdames Stiles (mayoress), Walker, Signal, Bullard, Rhubeck and Misses Small, Mairs and Cooper, assisted by Mrs Mairs, Mrs Stunuell and Miss vCoker. The public meeting in 1 the church was presided over by Air G. H. Stiles (Mayor) and addressed by Sister Moody Bell, Revs. J. Clover and Mairs. The solo, “Crossing the Bar,” was effectively rendered by Air A. Rimmer. An enjoyable social evening was brought to a close by the singing of the Doxology.
