London, May 28. Captain Scott, lecturing at the Royal Institution, stated that on the final journey from the winter station at M’Murdo Sound it was probable that after the first phase the advance would have to be made by the men’s unaided efforts. It would be only possible to beat Sir B. Shackleton’s record by taking a larger party and sending back sections at intervals. It was by no means a certainty that the Pole would be reached.
