PRESBYTERIAN SOCIAL .

The social held under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church, for the object of raising funds for the erection of a Sunday School, in the Masonic Hall, on Thursday night last, passed off very successfully, the audience being large, and all denominations represented. Mr T. Betty’s concert party and orchestra were responsible tor the production of an excellent vocal and instrumental programme, all the items being well received, and displayed local talent of no mean order. The evening’s programme was opened by the Orchestra, after which the following items were rendered : Song, Mrs Boyes (2) (encore) ; song, Miss Signal; recitation, Mrs Stevenson ; song, Miss H. Barber ; Glee, Betty’s Glee Party (encore) ; song, Mrs Swannell (encore); duet, Messrs Jenks and Buclass ; song, Miss Aitkeu; orchestral selection, “ Don Pedro,’’Orchestra; recitation, Mr Horublow (encore); duet, Miss Signal and Mr Alex. Rimmer (encore) ; song, Mr Buclass (2) (encore) ;glee, “ Calm be Thy Slumbers,” Glee Party; ” God Save the King.” The Rev. Mr Aitkeu, before the completion of the programme, thanked those who had contributed items the very excellent programme submitted to the audience, and he proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the performers, which was carried by acclamation A plentiful and tasty supper was provided by the lady members of the Presbyterian congregation, and special mention must be made of Mrs Park’s untiring efforts in the completion of the arrangements in this connection.

The secretary, Mr A. McCall, and the committee, Messrs T. Henderson, R. Parkes and J. Ross, are to be congratulated on the success of the evening’s entertainment, and it is the intention of the committee to hold another of these enjoyable socials at a later date.
