A WAIRARAPA COALFIELD.
Ekethuna, May 26. It has been expected from indications for some years that coal in payable quantities has existed near Eketahuna, but no definite steps have so far been taken to thoroughly test what appears to be a seam running east and west for about three miles, a little to the north of the town. Now, however, as a result of close investigations made by an expert of wide experience, a syndicate has been formed at Hastings to thoroughly test the locality, and already a boring right has been obtained over a large area of land, and boring operations are to commence at an early date.
The promoters of the syndicate are confident that the experiment will be followed with success, and the townspeople are taking keen interest in the project.
