FOXTON HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
The annual meeting of the above was held in the Council Chamber last evening. There was a large and representative gathering present. The President, Mr Alex. Speirs, occupied the chair. Apologies for absence were received from several members.
Tbe minutes of the last general meeting were read and confirmed. The meeting adjourned for a quarter of an hour as a mark of respect to the memory of the late King, whom the Chairman warmly eulogised. Upon resuming, the President reviewed the work of the past year. He said both the spring and the autumn shows had been very successful, and the Society was uow looked upon as a permanent institution. He felt that members could look with confidence to the future. The treasurer submitted the balance-sheet for the past year, which disclosed a credit balance of ,£l6 tss id. The statement was favourably commented upon bv the Chairman, and adopted subject to audit.
A special vote of thanks was accorded to those members who had not lifted prize money amounting to £1 19s 6d. The following officers were elected ; —Patron, E. Newman, M.P., president, Mr Alex. Speirs (re-elected amidst applause), vicepresidents, Messrs Ur. Adams, A. S. Easton, F. W. Frankland, W. Barber, Wm. Ross, C,, E., and J. Robinson, P. Neylon, W. Signal, Hennessy, Gibbs, and Greig ; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. T. Levett. General committee, Messrs R. Kempster, F. Woods, J. Newth, A. Wynd, W. Nye, J. Galland, P. G. Jackson, F. Hooker, J. K. Hornblow, W. Bullard, Boyes, Patterson, and Woodroofe. ladies’ committee, Mesdames Stewart, Collins senr., C. Robinson, Greig, Jeuks, Adams, Healey, Frankland, Galland, Boyes, Misses Rough and Signal. The date of the spring show was fixed for the 23rd and 24th November, and the autumn show for March, as near to the previous date as convenient.
It was decided to print the schedules for both shows in the oue catalogue.
Notice of motion was given to rescind rule 9 to judges. A resolution was passed, recommending the incoming committee to discuss the advisability of holding a juvenile show. The secretary’s salary was fixed at /10 per year. Votes of thanks were passed to the outgoing officers. A similar compliment to the chair concluded the meeting.
