The railway figures for the year ended March 31st last appear iu Thursday night’s Gazette. The gross revenue amounted to ,£3.249,790, aud the gross expenditure to ,£2,169,474, leaving a net balance of ,£1,080,316. The 1135 miles of railway iu the North Island yielded a net revenue of or ,£4Bl ns id per mile, as against a net revenue of 8 or -£345 9 s id per mile, in the case of the South. The net return per cent, on capital was 4.19 in the case of the North aud 3,37 per cent, iu the case of the South. The total revenue of all lines shows an increase of ,£320,204 as compared with the preceding year, aud the expenditure an increase of ,£54,658, the ratio of working expenses to revenue falling from 72.19 to 66.76 per cent. This ratio is higher in the South than in the North.
