RATS VERSUS COAL.

[TO THE EDITOR.] Sir, —ln last issue of your paper I noticed a paragraph stating that at the meeting of the Borough Council held last evening it was decided, on the motion of Cr, Robinson, seconded by Cr. Stewart, that the Council establish a municipal coal depot in Foxton, etc., etc. Now, sir, some three months back, at a council meeting, a motion was introduced, asking the Council to destroy all rats within the borough ; after a little discussion this motion was thrown out. That rats have both increased in numbers and daring is shown by where some of them have apparently taken up their abode. I trust that the motion re rats will again be brought befor e the Council, and that the Council will at once take steps to have all rats destroyed, as I fail to see how a municipal coal depot can be profitably run when rats are so much in evidence. Anxiously awaiting your report of the Councillors’ discussion and voting on above,—l am, etc., Gotemtoo.
