FOOTBALL.
THE MAORI TOUR,
The following Maori players have been chosen tor the Australian tour: —Backs, Stead (Southland), Dansey (Otago), Piki (Canterbury), M. Winiata and Rawiri (Horowhenua), Poananga (Auckland), Rogers (Rotorua), Pilihira (Mauawatu), Kaipara (Poverty Bay), Nuku and Tamati (Whakatane),and Lewis (Hawke’s Bay); forwards, Harrison (Thames), Prince (Southland), Tigene (Otago), W. Winiata (Manawatu), Takarauga (Wanganui), Tamu, Pine and Martin (Taranaki), Cunningham and Hall (Auckland), Petane (Rotorua), Phillips (Tauranga), Burnett, Wirepa andTurei (Poverty Bay). One other member is to be chosen. The team are all descended from Maoris, and is considered a very strong combination.
It will be seen from the above list that two Foxton players ha.ve been chosen, namely Rori Pitihira and Walter Winiata. The latter journeyed to Sanson to-day with the Albion team. His selection in the Maori team will mean a great loss to the Albions, as he is undoubtedly far and away the best forward in the team. Rori Pitihira is an ex-Te Aute college boy, and played for Awahou last season and intended to again don the black jersey this year.
