CONCERT AT MOUTOA.

A very enjoyable concert was given by Mr T. Betty’s concert party in Gardner’s Hall, Moutoa, last evening. There was a large and appreciative audience present. The concert was in aid of the organ fund of the Native Church, which has recently been renovated. Among those present were a number of representative natives. The programme submitted was as follows: Overture, “Majestical,” Orchestra ; song, “In the Gloaming,” Mr Fowler —a particularly fine interpretation ; glee, “Hail Smiling Morn,” Mesdames Boyes, Jenks, Clemett, Misses Jenks, Signal and Messrs Jenks, Buclass and Betty ; song, “ A China Tragedy,” Mrs Boyes. This item deserves special mention, the clear enunciation and descriptive rendering of the song describing the happenings to a Chinese ornament at the hands of the housemaid, were very amusing ; quartette, “Roses Underneath the Snow,” by Mrs Boyes, Miss Jenks and Messrs Jenks and Buclass ; Miss Signal was vociferously applauded for her vocal item ; Mr Simmons’ clever manipulation of the one-string violin was much appreciated; Mrs Swannel was encored for her rendering of “The Cows are in the Clover,” and her other items were “A Song of Sleep” and “Crossing the Stile” ; orchestral selection, “Don Pedro” ; Mr Buclass' soullul rendering of “Mary,” won him a recall; duet, “Larboard Watch,” Messrs Buclass and A. Jenks ; Mr Hornblow provided one or two recitations ; the glee party’s rendering of “Calm be Thy Slumbers” and the National Anthem brought the programme to a close. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Boyes, Misses Furrie and Jenks.

The chairman, Rev. Mr Woodward, thanked all for their efforts to liquidate the debt on the organ and hoped the balance oi the amount, about £2O, would be raised by special effort at an early date. The performers were subsequently entertained at supper at the residence of Mr Gardner by the young ladies of Moutoa, and for which they were accorded a hearty vote of thanks and musical honours. Mr Gardner was specially thanked for his generosity and assistance.
