The question of taking further proceedings in connection with the shooting of Michael Quirke by Henry Overton during the I’owelka scare has been engaging the attention of the Minister of Justice.It is understood that the Inspector of Police at Palmerston North has been called upon to report fully on

the circumstauces, aud as

whether there is any justification putting Overton on his trial on a charge of manslaughter.

On being questioned about the matter, Sub-Inspector O’Donovau said that nothing official had been received by him from the authorities yet, but it could safely be assumed that enquiry would be made.
