N.Z. HEMP PROCESS AND BY-PRODUCTS CO.
The N.Z. Hemp Process and ByProducts Co-’s site in Purcell Street presents a very busy appearance. Already two large corrugated iron buildings, and other temporary buildings, are erected, in which is stored machinery of all descriptions, while huge boilers and other ironwork are strewn about. Mr T. Rimmer, the contractor for the erection of the principal buildings, is busy at work with a large staff of men laying the foundations, and concrete pits and reservoirs. An artesian bore supplies an abundant water service, which in time will be connected for fire prevention, and other useful purposes connected with the industry. Provision will be made in this connection to keep in reserve such a force of water that it will be possible, in case of fire, to practically flood the building. A skilled engineer, with assistants, is also engaged sorting over apd fitting the complicated i machinery. Everything is proceeding under the watchtul eye of Mr Richardson, the Company’s technical director. In a future issue we will devote a descriptive article to the whole works. Foxton is to be congratulated upon being selected as the Company’s scene of operations. We look to such industries to bump the town along, and therefore every encouragement should be given to the Company to overcome initial difficulties.
