LOCAL REQUIREMENTS CONDITIONALLY GRANTED.

Wanganui, This Day

The ordinary meeting ot the Wanganui Education Board was held last night. Present Messrs Pirani, Aldridge, Bennett, Dixon, Fraser, O’Dea, Purnell, Spurdle and Guthrie. Resignations.—F. S. Meyer, Moawhanga; C. Heney, Tirirakawa ; H. Nettlefold, Hunterville; M. Robson, Taetihi; H. Yort, Mangaweka. Leave of absence was granted to C. Grant, Campbell St ; M. Miles, St Johns. The resignation of Hon. J. G. Findlay, Minister of Internal Affairs, ot his position on the Victoria College Council as representative of the Board, was received with regret. It was unanimously resolved to nominate Mr F. Pirani, Chairman of the Board, in his stead.

The question of repapering and painting teacher’s residence at Jackeytowu was left in the hands of Mr Bennett.

The resignation of Mr Williams, B.Sc., through ill-health, of his

position of Instructor of Science of Agriculture, was much regretted and it was decided that Mr Rockell, of Bulls District High School, should fill the vacancy. The recommendation of the Chief Inspector that the Board endeavour to make arrangements for several scholarships for those taking the agricultural course to enable holders of same to proceed to the University or Lincoln College was adopted. The request of the Foxton School Committee for necessary fencing was discussed at some length and after the Chairman and Mr Fraser had given details of their recent visit of inspection, it was resolved to grant the request provided the committee did certain specified work. The matter was left in the hands of Mr Fraser with power to act. Accounts amounting to ,£'B73 9s 5d were passed for payment ; bank overdraft ,£lßl6 is qd.
