FOOTBALL.

The football season was opened locally on Saturday afternoon when a senior team Irom the Shannon Club visited Foxton and played a team from the Albion Club. The weather was rather on the warm side for football and before half the first spell had been played it was noticeable that a large percentage of the players were not fit to see a strenuous game through. The game was set down to commence at 3 o’clock, but a start was not made until a quarter to four on account of several of the local players not turning up to time. When a team from a neighbouring town pays us a visit one would think that the least local players could do would be to turn up on the field at the appointed time and not keep the visitors waiting for over half-an-hour, and it is hoped they will show a little more consideration in future. The game was played in the most friendly spirit and was very even, the score at the call of time being Albions 3 —Shannon nil. Albion’s score was an unconverted try by Dunn. Dr Adams had charge of the whistle and gave every satisfaction.

The junior match played at Shannon resulted in a win for the visitors by nine points to three.

The return matches, senior at Shannon, and junior at Foxton, will be played on Saturday.

SUB-UNION BOUNDARIES

Last night Messrs Robinson and Whibley attended the meeting of the Management Committee ol the Manawatu Rugby Union at Palmerston North, in reference to the enforcement of the sub - union boundaries as defined last season. Upon the delegation entering the meeting room and introducing themselves, Mr Pirani, who represents the Feildiug Club, wanted to know who they represented and what right they had there. He made the statement that no meeting of the subunion had been held this season and further that no resolution had been passed appointing the two delegates to attend the meeting. It was pointed out by the Foxton representatives that the annual meeting of the Sub-Union was held at Rongotea on the 19th instant, and a resolution was passed at that meeting appointing the delegates. Mr Pirani determined to do his best to prevent the delegates being heard, then wanted to see a copy of the resolution, and the authority from the Sub-Union for their attendance. At this point the chairman (MrE. D. Hoben) called Mr Pirani to order and informed him that all questions must be put through the chairman. Replying to Mr Pirani Mr Wibley said he did not bring a copy of the resolution appointing Mr Robinson and himself as delegates, but was prepared as secretary of the SubUnion to write out an authority at once. The chairman intimated that this was not necessary and said he would hear what the deputation had to say. Mr Whibley, who acted as spokesman, then briefly touched on the steps that had been taken last season to have the boundaries defined and as this had now been done he asked that no club or individual player within those boundaries be allowed to take part in the competition controlled by the Manawatu Union. He did not think there would be any trouble in connection with clubs, as at a meeting of football enthusiasts held at Sanson a few days back a new club was formed comprising players from Rongotea and Sanson, and it was unanimously decided to play under the Foxton Sub-Union in preference to playing under the Manawatu Union, notwithstanding that it was much nearer to Palmerston than Foxton, but what was wanted was the Manawatu Union to prevent individual players within the Foxton boundaries from playing for clubs taking part in the Manawatu Union’s competition. He particularly instanced Carroll Bros, whom he understood intended playing for Feilding.

After considerable discussion it was decided to inform the Foxton Sub-Union that the boundaries as defined last year were still in force, but that they applied to clubs and not to individual players. The Foxton delegates then handed in an appeal to the New Zealand Rugby Union, asking for a ruling on the point, which the Manawatu Union decided to forward
