The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, April 16, 1910. LOCAL RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION IN SCHOOLS.

Parents need uot now complain that religious instruction is denied their children at the State School. The Education Board has allowed the committee on one day of the week to open the school at 9.30, instead of 9 a.in. An opportunity is thus afforded ministers to meet the children and give religious instruction in different rooms, yet under one roof, while the school time-table is not in any way interfered with. It was found that if the classes were to be a success a later hour than 8.30 a.m. would have to be observed, as a number of children come from a distance, and others again have duties to perform which prevents them attending earlier than 9 o’clock. If religious bodies in other parts of the Dominion adopted this plan there would not be such an outcry for religious instruction in our State schools during school hours. The local Anglican, Methodist and Presbyterian ministers will be in attendance every Friday morning, from 9 to 9.30 o’clock, and it only now remains for parents to send their children along.
