The Manawatu Herald. Tuesday, April 12, 1910. WATER SUPPLY.
Tim president of the local Chamber of Commerce, in his quarterly report, inter alia “congratulated the citizens in taking action in the matter of a water supply, but said that it was the feeling of a considerable portion of the community that the fullest possible iulormatiou with regard to alternative schemes should be procured from the highest authorities.” It is unfortunate, however, that this agitation for alternate schemes was not thought of before the Council decided to take a loan for the artesian supply, and both schemes submitted at the same poll. Of course, there is no reason why this should not be done when the particulars asked for in last night's petition to the Council are obtained, it is satisfactory to know that several ratepayers who opposed the artesian scheme are prepared to actively support the Shannon scheme. In any case it will do no harm to have the fullest information on the subject, as it is only a question of time when one ol the two schemes will be adopted. The Council also intend to act on the suggestion of Mr Climie, and ascertain whether the Levin Council will allow their water supply source to be tapped to supply Foxlon. We are ol opinion that such a request is unreasonable for obvious reasons. We hope Councillors will not be downhearted by past efforts, but will forge ahead until the desired objective is reached.
