MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

The monthly sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held before Mr A. D. Thomson S.M. yesterday. I’KKACHKS OF NOXIOUS WKKDS ACT.

The Inspector of Noxious Weeds (J. Dagleish) proceeded against Thomas Bowe, C. A. Wallace, J. V. Burr, John Smith and M. Edwards, all of Moutoa, farmers, tor failing to take proper steps to clear Californian thistle from their properties during the last six months.

Evidence was given by the Inspector that he had visited the several properties and found that proper steps had net been taken to clear the thistle. All the defendants stated that they had done the clearing as expeditiously as possible. The Magistrate inflicted fines of 10s with costs 12s in each case, and stated that defendants could take it as a warning as he usually inflicted heavier penalties. civil, casks. Judgment for plaintiffs was entered up in the following undefended civil cases; —C. E. Mandl v. P. Heta, claim £2 3s, costs 22s ; A. R. Osborne v. J. A. Campbell, ,£lO 15s, costs 38s 6d ; R. 11. Barber v. J. and E. D. Webb, £1 17s, costs Ss ; A. Jonson v. A. McKegney, £ 2, coses 9s. In the judgment summons Wellington Bakers’ Union v. John Nelson Walls, after hearing evidence as to the earnings of defendant no order was made.
