MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Moutoa Drainage Board was held in the Board’s office on Tuesday evening. Present: —Messrs 8.. G. Gower (chairman), O. R. Robinson, F. S. Easton, and H. G, Hammond.

The clerk reported that the financial year had closed with a credit balance in the general account of ,£65 18s id, and in loan account of 2 X 43 r s s J d- Against the latter, wages amounting to £2s 4s 6d were paid on the 2nd inst., leaving that account in credit at date 10s yd. The balance of loan exclusive of the ,£SOO set aside for drain connections is ns 6d. All rates for the past year have been paid, and the matter of rating for the current year should he dealt with at next meeting. The amount of il- - debt to January 31 has n A yet been notified by the Treasury, but the special rate already col lected, and which is included in the credit of the general account, should cover about two thirds of the amounts to he paid the Treasury on the Ist August and Ist February next. A further advance on account of loan will be required before next meeting. One account of ,£SO was passed for payment.

A petition was received from several rate-payers at the lower end of the district, drawing the attention of the Board to the effect of the tide flooding their lauds, and asking that in order that this might be obviated, that floodgates be erected on the creek known as “ Duck Creek,” or that it be filled up.—lt was decided that members ot the Board, in company with the engineer, inspect the creek on Friday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, and decide what steps be taken. The Board went into committee to consider tenders for deepening and widening drains, and on resuming business, the following motion was carried that the tender of Petersen and Williams for contract No. 3, at 7s, and No. 4,6 s, be accepted, and that the accepttance of a tender for contracts 1 and 2 be held over for reference to the engineer, and then left to the chairman to deal with.
