THE POWER OF THE BOSS.
As the result of a bolted bullock team, Bill bad broken bis leg. He crawled to a tree, and with his back to it groaned out to his blackfellow that he was to go on to the station and get the boss to send a cart to bring him (Bill) in, Jacky found the boss, but delivered his story in such a manner that the boss thought it was a bullock that had a broken leg. “Go back, Jacky,'’ he said, “get ’em knife, cut ’em throat —and described with his hand an imaginary stroke across his gullet. Jacky took a knife back with him, and, stealing quietly up behind the tree where Bill rested, he grabbed that citizen by the hair and proceeded to hack at his windpipe. Bill bellowed and lought like fury to keep his jugular intact. Fortunately his shouts brought along another of the boss teamsters who was in the vicinity, and Jacky received a bash with a piece ol tree that checked his proceedings with great suddenness. When he recovered from the assault he was much concerned for teamster No. 2, “By clipes,” he said, “ old Jones plurry well sack you ! ”
