CLEANLINESS OF BOROUGH.
[to tub kditor.]
Sir, —In your issue of March 17th you staled that the Inspector of Factories was dissatisfied with the cleanliness of a number of back yards in Main Street and intended to institute proceedings against the owners if an improvement was not made. I considered this was a reflection ou the manner in which I carried out my duties as luspector of Nuisances and therefore wrote to the Inspector oi Factories on the matter. The reply received was as follows: — “ If you take my advice, I don’t think yon will let anything that appears in a newspaper disturb your uight’s rest. We inspectors often get called over the coals by such ‘ experts ’ but I never take it as a reflection ou the manner in which an official’s duties are carried out. When visiting Foxton I shall be only too happy to work iu concert with you and it might be helpful iu this direction if ou some occasion we could visit some of the shops aud factories together.” Thanking you in anticipation.—l am etc, A. Jonson, Inspector of Nuisances.
