MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
QUARTERLY RETURNS.*"
The local clerk of the court (Mr F. Woods) has supplied us with the following returns of the business transacted at the Magistrate’s Court for the quarter ended March 31st, 1910:
Three sittings of the Court presided over the Magistrate and 16 sittings presided over by Justices of the Peace, were held during the quarter. Civil. lUJSINKSS. The total number of civil cases heard by the Magistrate was 44. The aggregate amount sued for was 6s 2d, and the amount recovered ,£284 15s 2d. One application was heard in Chambers, and one order was made. The number of plaints issued was 4S, distress warrants 5, judgment summonses 3, orders on judgment summons 1, processes served by bailiff within two miles 50, over two miles 25, distress warrants executed within two miles s, over two miles 4. The total amount of civil fees paid in stamps was Bs. CRIMINAL. Forty-three persons were taken Into custody, summoned, or apprehended, 7 were dismissed on the merits, 24 fined, 2 imprisoned, 4 orders made, and 5 were convicted and discharged. The amount of criminal fees and fines paid in stamps was 2s.
