BODY FOUND ON BEACH.
THAT OF WANGANUI OLD AGE PENSIONER.
Last night the local police received word from Wanganui that the description given of the man whose body was found washed up on the beach on Good Friday, tallies with that of Thomas Norwood, an old age pensioner, of Taupo Quay, Wanganui, who threw himself off the Wanganui Bridge, on the night of March 18th. At the time he jumped into the river there was a very strong current and the probabilities are that his body was washed out to sea.
The description given by the Wanganui police as to the age, appearance and dress of Horwood tallies exactly with that of the man whose body was found, and there is no doubt that it was his body. Last night our representative closely inspected the handkerchief found on the body and the name in the corner is T. Horwood.
In order to clear up any doubt as to the identification of the man, the police arc forwarding the clothing found on him to Wanganui.
