London, March 19

Sir Ernest Shackleton is planning a purely scientific geographical expedition towards the end of 1911. It will not compete with Captain Scott’s venture.

The Shackleton bases will be Cape Adair aud Adeli Laud. Sir Ernest will explore between Cape Adair and Gaussborg. His staff \yill include some old companions, sud Mr Douglas Mawson, ot Sydney, will be the scientific director.

Financial support has already been promised. Great efforts are being made iu Scotland to raise funds for Dr W. S. Bruce’s Antarctic expedition. Sydney, March 21.

Professor David considers that the area Sir Ernest Shackleton proposed to explore offers great possibilities from a geographical and general scientific aspect. Possibly another visit will be made to the Magnetic Pole, information regarding which is of much importance not only to science, but to navigation. Mr MawSOU, adds the Professor, will be an ideal scientific director.
