The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, March 17, 1910. A QUERY.
Wk are informed that the Inspector of Factories is dissatisfied with the cleanliness of a number of back yards in Main Street, and unless there is an improvement at an early date, proceedings are to be instituted against the owners. This information, coming first hand and red hot on top of the Inspector of Nuisances’ report to the recent Borough Council meeting “that the town was in a healthy condition,” sounds rather contradictory. Does the inspector systematically visit' every hack yard in the borough before drawing up his report, aaul is he piepared to prove that Ihe town is in a healthy condition. Either the nuisance inspector or the Government official is in the wrong. Time will prove, but in the meantime the Borough Council, as the local health authority, should look into the matter.
