A CLEVER SWINDLER.

London, February 21. George Franklin, a Southampton builder, committed suicide at the Holborn Public Baths on Tuesday. Frauds involving a hundred thousand sterling have since been discovered in connection with his affairs. Nearly every solicitor and bank in Southampton has been victimised. One bank lost Franklin sometimes raised money nine times upon the same land by means of bogus leases. He lost the proceeds of his frauds in speculation.

Tvs 0 or three solicitors discovered that they held duplicate deeds. They called a general meeting, and over fifty Hampshire Dorset, and Wiltshire solicitors attended who had been similarly tricked.

Franklin was highly respected and was a Justice of the Peace,
