SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

The monthly meeting of the Foxton school committee was held in the schoolhouse on Thursday evening. Present: —Messrs Betty, Bullard, Levett, Henderson, Speirs and Rev. Aitken (secretary). Apologies for absence were received from the Chairman and Mr Coley. Mr Betty was appointed to the chair.

Correspondence of a formal nature was received.

The headmaster's report was read and the visitors for the month were authorised to carry out certain minor repairs contained therein.

It was decided to grant the use of one room in the old school building to the Roman Catholic Young Men’s Club at a nominal rental.

A sub-committee consisting of the Chairman, Secretary, and Messrs Levett, Speirs and the Headmaster were appointed to meet representatives of the Education Board, in reference to certain necessaay improvements to the

ground. It was decided to make application to the Board for the use of the old school residence for the caretaker, seeing that the capitation grant has been reduced and that the committee havn’t now sufficient funds to pay for this workA committee consisting of the Chairman, Secretary, Messrs Bullard and Speirs was set up to make arrangements for the picnic. In reference to affording better facilities to children whose parents desire them to attend religious instruction classes, it was decided to ask the Board to allow the school to open at 9.30 instead of 9 a.m. on Fridays. The question of erecting a cupboard for cadets uniforms, etc., was held over pending ascertaining cost of same.

The Chairman and Mr Henderson were appointed a visiting committee for the month.

The Secretary reported as to his attendance as a delegate to the School Committees Association conference at Wanganui. —It was decided to affiliate with the Association, members of committee to pay the affiliation fee. Accounts amounting to £7 18s were passed lor payment and the meeting rose at 9.40 p.m.
