The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, February 10, 1910. THE PUBLIC HALL.
“ Whkn I was showu over your local Public Hall, I nearly faiuted,” said the advance agent of the “Scarlet Troubadours ” to our representative on Tuesday. Other very uncomplimentary remarks have also been made by theatricals about the local Public Hall, which we refrain from publishing. We are assured on good authority that if Foxton possessed a decently-appointed hall, first-class companies would make a point of showing here. But, apart from this, we ask the local authority which licenses the building, whether the hall meets the requirements of the Act ? If it doesn’t, then why is it licensed ? It would appear that the Borough Council, which is most exacting in most things, is apparently lax in this particular. We don’t blame the owner of the hall, but in the interests of the general public and travelling companies, we think it is time a protest was made and to either demand an improvement or cancel the license.
