FOXTON RACING CLUB.
JOCKEYS MEEEE! OFFENDERS FINED EACH. A meeting of stewards of the Foxtou Racing Chib was held in the club’s office last night. Mr W. E. Barber presided over a full attendance of stewards. An apology for absence was read from the president, Mr J. Whyte. The meeting was held principally to consider what action should be taken in respect to the riotous conduct of certain horsemen which took place in the jockeys’ room after the running ot the Scurry race on the second day of the recent meeting. The evidence ot those implicated and witnesses, taken shortly after the trouble occurred, was read by the chairman. From the evidence, which was of a somewhat contradictory nature, it appeared that a wrangle took place during the Scurry race between the jockeys- C. O’Neil aud Young. Vile epithets were hurled at each other and other things alleged. The trouble was renewed in the jockeys’ room after the race when O’Neil’s brother and another jockey, Attwood.came to grips and a general and short lived-raelee ensured. After a general discussion it was finally unanimously decided to impose a fine of £5 each on the two O’Neil’s, Young aud Attwood. A letter was read from the owner of Captain alleging that the horse had been struck over the nose during the Scurry race. It was decided to inform Mr Mellsop that as no complaint had been lodged at the termination of the race, the club regrets that it cannot take further action.
A fine of £5 was imposed on J. Morris for breach of rule 3 which prohibits a trainer who is also a jockey from riding a horse in a race other than his own training if he has a horse entered. It will be remembered that Morris took the mount on Mr S. Mcsseua’s Waitoto in the January Flack, and at the same time had Envoy, trained by himself, running in the same race. Waitoto won, but was disqualified on the above grounds and much dissatisfaction was expressed by the public who supported the winning horse on the totalisator.
The secretary presented a approximate statement of receipts and expenditure of the recent meeting, which disclosed a profit of about ,£SOO. —The chairman said the Club had cause to congratulate itself upon such a satisfactory result. Accounts were passed tor payment, and the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chair.
