THE FOXTON AMATEURS.
The local amateur society repeated the “ Ticket c it Leave Man ” to a good house ori| Saturday evening last. There wisf practically no alteration in the cast of characters, and the piece went off without a hitch, and was much appreciated by the audience. An even better audience greeted the three act farcical comedy “The Pickpocket,” last evening, and the audience was kept in a simmer of merriment from start to finish. This class of play is evidently more palateable to a local audience than heavier pieces, and this opinion is generally held by those who attended both entertainments. The amateurs are just beginning to settle down to their work, and the improvement they have made since their first performance is very marked. In fact, the histrionic talent displayed last night was much above amateur grade. The staging and dressing of the piece was excellent, and considering the short time at their disposal, the amateurs excelled themselves, and Fox ton has just cause to feel proud of its amateurs. A little stage nervousness was at noticeable on the part of one oS two “ new hands,” but this wore off as the play proceeded. Messrs Dr Adams. F. D. Whibley, McCall and Colder, and Mrs Clemett played up to their previous good reputations, and Misses Levett and Hennessy, both of whom made their first appearance, did remarkably well. Minor parts were excellently portrayed by Messrs J. T. Levett, W. E. Bullard, A. J. Imrie, K. H, FTirrie, R. Bright, and Mrs Rodie. The overtures and incidental music was played by Miss E. Cook,
