“Carrotty Anna !” was the peremptory call made by the orderly in the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton, says the Age, when a certain witness was required. The amazed and amused crowd in the Court expected to see a fiery haired female respond to the call, but it transpired that the party wanted* to give evidence was a membeM)£ a well-known local Maori family named Karaitiana. It was at a children’s party last week and the little gormandisers had been heavily loaded with all kinds of fancy ramifications in the way of grub. When the banquet was about finished the hostess said: “Now, boys, come along, we are going to play animal grab, Reggie, what will you be?” “I’ll be a dog.” “You Charlie?” “I’ll be a bear.” What are you going to be Robin?” “A duck.'’ “Now Gerald what are you going to be?” “I—l —l’m going to be sick !” was the woeful reply.
