MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING

At the usual monthly meeting at Saudon yesterday there were present. —Crs J. G. Wilson (chairman), G. Kendall, J. Dalton, 1. Heson, T. Masters and Barber. Leave of absence was granted to Cr R. B, McKenzie.

Amongst the correspondence received and dealt with was the following : Auditor-General, certifying to the balance-sheets.

Public Works Department, notifying the Council that before anything definite can be done in the matter of tramway extension it will be necessary that particulars of the proposed engines and rolling stock be supplied to the Department.

Wellington Harbour Board, asking Council to appoint a delegate to the election of a member of the Board. —Chairman (Mr J. G. Wilson) appointed. R. Moore, requesting that improvements be effected on the Palmerston-Foxtou road. —Roadman to carry out. Jas. McKnigbt, Foxton Ranger, asking permission to range on the lower part of Council’s roads.— Cr. Barber to deal with.

Wilson and Hawkins, making an offer for green flax on FoxtonWhirokino road. Refused. The following alterations were made on the rate book :—F. S. Easton to C. F. Johnston, pt section 430, Foxtou. The Treasurer reported balances as under:—

General account, dr ,£940 ; loan account, cr ,£852 ; (net dr balance ,£88.) Available for expenditure to 31st March, 1910: —Sandon riding, £47 ; Mount Stewart, £3l ; Waitohi, £63 ; Rongotea, £9l ; Kawa Kawa, ,£66 ; Awahou, £BS ; Whirokino Divison, ,£llß. Over expended : Carnarvon riding, £4. The Overseerer reported as follows ;

Whirokino Sub-Division : The road grader is now at work in this district forming up No. 6 line and will thereafter trim up the Whirokiuo and Beach roads. Estimate for contract No. 82, deepening and widening Kaikokopu drain, £2 13s 4d per chain.

It was resolved that the ranger be informed that he must endeavour to keep the roads clear of stock at night time, as there have been many complaints against stock being at large alter 6 p.m.

It was resolved that Mr H. Robinson be appointed registrar of dogs for the County—excluding the town district of Rongotea—lor the current year. That the fee be 2s 6d each for cattle, sheep and rabbit dogs, 5s each for all others ; that such fees are now due and payable at the registration office, Saudon.
