FRESH EXPEDITIONS
London', January 10.
Sir K. Shackleton, addressing a gathering of German scientists aud explorers at Berlin, outlined a new Antarctic scheme over a fresh route. Me begins preparations for the venture when his work on the last expedition is completed. The German Geographical Society awarded Sir E. Shackleton the Nachtigal gold medal.
The Daily Telegraph's New York correspondent icports that the American National Association is inviting its 48,000 members to contribute to a South Pole expedition, The plan discussed includes the purchase of the ship Roosevelt, and the proposed expedition will include as leaders, Captain Bartlett, Professor McMillan and Mr Bump, members of the Peary expediliou. It is suggested by Mr Hermon Bumpus, director of the Museum of Natural History of New York, that the proposed American expedition will approach the South Pole, not by Sir Ernest Shackleton’s route, but by Coode Island or Wilkes' Laud-
The Daily Telegraph’s correspondent believes the average American is bored by Polar research and says that if the expedition starts it will take the easiest route.
