GENERAL CABLES.
Sydney, Jan. 10. At a mass meeting of Newcastle miners, strong speeches were made against Premier Wade’s Industrial Disputes Act and the prosecution of the Union leaders. One speaker advised: “If it is necessary to get arms or take Premier Wade out and shoot him, then do it!” The Dean of Newcastle, amid a storm of interruption, mounted the platform and protested. He said the speakers did not not represent the thinking portion of the people of the district. Such speeches as those just made justified the Government taking legal action. Hobart, January 10. Two brothers named Longmaid have been arrested at P'orest on a charge of murdering a man named Butt, who disappeared on December 21, and who was subsequently found in the bush shot through the heart. Evidence at the inquest showed that bad feeling had existed between the deceased and one of the Longmaids, owing to the latter’s friendship with Butt’s wife.
