BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Foxton Borough Council was held in the Council Chamber last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (G. H. Stiles Esq.), and Crs Coley, Rimmer, Adams, Stewart, Robinson, Gibbs, Levett and Speirs. Correspondence was read from P. Sheratt, offering his asphalting plant for the sum of £2 10s.— Accepted, From F. W. Hopper, applying for permission for the erection of a dwelling and show room on his section in Main Street, with a brick wall between same and Hkrai.d office. —The by-laws provide that all buildings to be erected in Main Street shall have dividing brick walls, but as Mr Hopper did not intend building over the full width of his section, the Council decided to grant the permission asked for, but the other wall must be erected when the full width ol the section is built upon. From the Manager of the Gas Works, advising that he would do his utmost to see that the street lighting is in future faithfully carried out in the terms of the contract. From Mr E. Newman M.P., in reply to a letter asking for a copy of Advances Act, advising that same was not yet printed but would be forwarded as soon as ready. From Secretary Wellington Harbour Board, asking Council to appoiut a delegate to represent it at election of member.—No action taken. The pound keeper reported that during last month seven head of cattle and four horses had been impounded by the ranger, and driving fees amounting to seven shillings had been collected. One horse had also been impounded by a settler. - - iTrrfn'spector'of Nuisances reported that the Borough was in a fair sanitary condition. Accounts amounting to £276 ns id were passed for payment. Cr Robinson drew attention to the amount of noxious weeds in certain portions of the Borough, and it was decided to draw the attention of the noxious weeds inspector to same. It was decided that the lease of the Target Reserve be put up at auction, for a term of seven years from June Ist, 1910, at an early date, to be fixed by the Town Clerk. Cr Stewart asked if something could not be done to improve the present road to the Beach. The Mayor stated that he intended to bring the matter up at the nex, meeting of the Harbour Board and see what could be done. The Cor;- fil rose at 8.40 p.m.
