THE WAIKARE.
At noon yesterday, Mr Geo. Allport, secretary of the Marine Department, received a telegram from the lightkeeper at Puysegur Point stating had
passed the lighthouse, and signalled that the Waikare had capsized. She also signalled that she was proceeding to Dunedin, and that assistance was not required at Dusky Sound. In view of the above the tug Terawhiti will not now be dispatched to the scene of the wreck.
Acting under instructions from the Marine Department, the Collector of Customs at Dunedin will arrange a suitable date for a magisterial inquiry into the wreck of the Waikare. The inquiry will be held at Dunedin, and as soon as the daic Ir.s -eea arranged, the Department will appoint assessors.
