Invercargill, Dec. 29. Foster’s hotel, atThornbury, a two-storied building, was destroyed by fire on Tuesday afternoon. No particulars are obtainable. Wellington, Dec. 29. At the inquest concerning the death of Robert Henry Parker, who was knocked down by a tramcar on the 18th inst., and who died in the hospital last Friday, a verdict was returned that it was due to an accident, no blame being attachable to the motorman. Oamaru, Dec. 29. As the up train from Palmerston was arriving at Maheno the whistle startled a team of horses attached to a dray. The driver, Timlick, slipped, and the wheels passed over both legs. It is feared both are broken. Auckland, Dec. 29. News from Somoa states that A. Nillpal, manager of a plantation at Falelauuiu,- was attacked by five Chinese labourers in consequence of a dispute. Nillpal drew his revolver, and the coolies ran away. He is in a critical condition in the hospital.
