CORRESPONDENCE.
fTo the Editor.], Sir, —I am not desirous of takT ing up your space to put forth my views as to ornamental trees, but am anxious to know when the several 'Councillors who promised such a lot, in the interests of the ratepayers, are going to substantiate their most vital promise for , the safety of life and property. I allude to the absence of any sort of safeguard.against fire in this town. This is a terribly important matter and unless the Council take immediate steps to procure a fire cart or make other provisions they will assuredly be placed in the same position as the motor • driver who kills a child, or any H other negligent public man who executes his duty carelessly and is brought up on a charge of manslaughter. Thereisabsolutely.no 1 doubt that once a fire got a start in Foxton it would have to take its own course and life and pro- • petty would beat its mercy, and who would be to blame ? —Yours CtC ” ’“Scared.”
