MR DRIVER’S ENTERTAINMENT.
Last evening in the Masonic Hall Mr Driver, undoubtedly one of the cleverest magicians ever seen here, gave another of his most interesting and weird performances, to a fair but appreciative audience. As a lesson in human credulity, gullibility, and duplicity, Mr Driver’s entertainment was well worth the price of admission twice over. A special feature of mystification was the “ thinking-phone,” whereby Mr Driver essayed to read the thoughts of any two men from the audience who would take their seats on the stage. This being done, and the name of the person occupying the mind of one of the individuals in question being written down and carefully sealed while the magician took up his stand at the other end of the stage, with the aid ot the ’phone he astounded his hearers with a correct repetition of the writing contained in the closed envelope. For two and a half hours Mr Driver held the undivided attention of his audience, the entire programme being changed from that submitted by Mr Driver in the Public Hall previously, with the exception of the “apports” produced at the conclusion. The entertainment was worthy of a greater share of patronage, the falling-off of which was due to counter-attractions in the town. We feel certain that should Mr Driver favour Foxtou at a future date with another visit he will be greeted with a bumper house.
