GAS LIGHT SPORTS.

THIS EVENING. IN VICTORIA PARK. It should hardly be necessary to remind the public of the Gaslight Sports to be held in Victoria Park to-night, as there is sure to be a | very large attendance if only tor the novelty of the thing, it being the first of the kind ever- held locally. However, apart from the novelty of the affair a good night’s amusement is promised. The entries received for the big Sheffield are most satisfactory, including as they do nomilhations from all parts of the Dominion. The runners engaged represent the cream of New Zealand’s sprinters, and include Dave Sanson, of Hastings, undoubtedly one of the Dominion’s fastest men over the Sheffield distance ; “Bill” Terrill, Marlborough’s crack; -Leo Alzdorf, the local champion; ]. H. Barry, J. H, Berry, A. E. Rickleben; and many other equally wellknown men. With such good runners competing, fast times should be recorded. The 120yds race between the professional scullers should be very interesting. This event is not a handicap, and therefore “ Billy ’’ Webb will for once start On equal terms with other scullers. The Borough- Band has been engaged to supply the music during the evening. The price of admission to the ground has been fixed at pne shilling.
