HEMP INDUSTRY.

Says Thursday’s Post: Hemp is dear to-day—per ton dearer, in fact, than last week. Millers are doing much belter than this time last year, when the market was extremely dull. To-day good fair grade is worth per ton in Wellington for shipments for November and December and ,£24 los for shipments from January to June. This time last year good fair grade was quoted in London at <ios. It then went down in price to for good fair in London early in the year, and in March the Customs value was given as 15s in Wellington. The total cost of production is, roughly, ,£l7 15s per ton, and wages represent per ton out of that. In sympathy with the price of hemp, the price of tow has also risen.
