MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.
MEETING OF COMMITTEE.
A committee of the Council met at Sanson on Monday afternoon, consisting of Crs. G- Kendall (in the chair), Thos. Masters, and R. B. McKenzie.
It was resolved that tenders for contracts be accepted as follows ; Contract 77, F. Rink, at £215; contract 78, J. Cooksley, £53 ; contract 79, C. T. Peterson, is per yard ; contract 80, J- Cooksley, total £9 7 s - The Clerk reported the names of fifteen persons who had failed to pay their dog taxes though repeatedly asked to do so. It was decided that legal action be taken to compel registration if not effected by next meeting. Cr McKenzie advocated the lowering of tram fares so as to stimulate through passenger traffic. The tram should reach Foxton to meet the coach to Levin and leave after the Levin coach returns. He suggested that the coach proprietors be asked to make a reduction in fares also with the same aim. It was resolved that reduced fares on tramway commence early in January. Fares from Pukenui, is 6d single, 2s 6d return, reduced fares only to apply to the ordinary time-table. That the tram manager be requested to write to the coach proprietors at Foxton and endeavour to arrange for through fates and also arrange for advertising. Accounts amounting to £420 were passed for payments.
