JOHNSON DEFEATS KETCHEEE.
San Francisco, October 17
Johnson defeated Ketchell in the 12th round, knocking his opponent out. Ketchell fought a plucky fight and showed considerable cleverness, showing the champion leads. Johnson floored him in the sixth round, but he came up smiling. In the seventh round Ketchell swung a terrible left and raised a big lump on the champion’s jaw. It was the best blow of the fight and the crowd cheered.
The champion had the best of the next three rounds and inflicted a lot of punishment. In the nth round Ketchell forced the fight but was unable to penetrate Johnson’s defence. He went back to his corner badly battered about the face. In the 12th Ketchell rushed the champion, who stumbled, then rose and sprang at Ketchell, and catching him off his guard, planted a left in the body, two rights at the head and floored him. He was counted out.
