BOXING.
Patrons of the noble art of boxing will be pleased to hear that the Manawatu Boxing Association intend to' hold another of their popular tournaments, at the Palmerston North Opera House, on November 9th, when a grand programme will be provided. A professional contest of 15 rounds between Clarke, of London, champion welter-weight of the Dominion, and Archie Leckie, of Wellington, will take place. These two men have met twice and the proposed contest on the 9th will decide who is the better man. In addition to the above Geoff Watchorn, welter-weight champion of New Zealand, will contest six two minute rounds with Tancred, of Petone, champion of the Wellington province. Shields, an ex-Foxton boy, and admittedly one of the best gst men in the Dominion, will compete in a six round bout with Haggerty, the feather weight champion oi New Zealand, or Lepper, of Petone. S. Havell, the Manawatu bantam weight, will also contest the best of six rounds against Iggulden, of Wellington, one of the smartest men in the Dominion. The above which is a splendid one night programme, should draw a crowded house. The Manawatu Association has the reputation of holding the best boxing tournaments in the Dominion. This fact is recognised by the governing body of New Zealand, which has offered the next New Zealand championships to the Manawatu Association.
