MANAWATU COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING

The monthly meeting was held at Sanson yesterday. Present: — Crs J. G, Wilson (chairman), J. Masters, G. Kendall, John Dalton, J. Henson, and R. B. McKenzie. Leave of absence was granted to Cr Barber.

Amongst correspondence con sidered were communications from

The Treasury, notifying payment of ,£l5O towards cost of Palmerston-Foxton road, and ,£2OO on account of drainage loan, Block 1, Sandy S. D. Horowhenua County Council, consenting to care Whirokino bridge, while Mauawatu Council to care the Shannon bridge. Friendly Societies’ Council, asking power to prohibit vendors of refreshments, etc., from trading on the road outside the Park during the Friendly. Societies’ picnic,—No authority ; should apply to the Foxton Borough Council.

C. A. Wallace, Moutoa, asking Council to provide outlet for drainage.—'Agreed. Commissioner of Crown Lauds, asking formal consent to vesting section 268 in the Foxton Harbour Board.—Granted.

H. Gieig, Foxton, asking that fences be removed blocking road between sections 66 and 69 on the opposite side of the Manawatu river which his company desired to use as a waterway.—Gates to be removed.

The Treasurer reported the balance of the general account, dr. loan account, cr, Amounts available for expenditure in ridings to 31st March, 1910: — Sandon Mt. Stewart Waitohi Rongotea ,£214, Carnarvon ,£ll7, Kawa Kawa ,£lßl, Awahou ,£l7l, Whirokino The Overseer reported that Messrs Mitchell and Faing Bros, were progressing with a drain in the Wakapuni district. Marram grass should be planted on the drift sand along the draiu. They were prepared to do this at 20s per acre. The bank of No. 2 line, Whirokino sub-division, should be re-graded. The road was nearly impassable for milk carts. At Oroua Bridge station the road was dangerous for traffic. About six chains should be widened,—The report was adopted except the regrading No. line, which was held over owing to the absence of Cr Barber.
