The Manawatu Herald. Saturday, September 25, 1909. SOME INTERESTING FIGURES.
At the Manawatu No-License Convention held in Foxton on Thursday last, the organising agent pointed out that the voters in the Dominion (those who bad cast valid votes) had increased during the last twelve years by 154,394 ; that in the same period the No-License votes had increased by 123,159, whilst the liquor vote had only increased by 48,560. He also emphasised the fact that in spite of the small set-back experienced at the last liquor poll the No-License vote in the Manawatu had increased in twelve years by 1232 (i.e. from 1221 in 1896 to 2453 in igoS'' or by rox per cent., whilst the liquor vote had only increased in the same time by 431 votes (i.e. from 1777 in 1896 to 2208 in 1908) or by 25 per cent. This tallies with the totals for the Dominion for the past three years as the following figures prove : Cont’nce vote in 1908 188,140 ~ ~ 1905 182,884 ~ Increase 5,256 No-License vote in 1908 221,471 ~ 1905 198,768 ~ Increase 22,703 In 1896 the No-License vote was in a minority of 41,268 and in 1908 it was in a majority of 33,331 or a net increase over , the Continuance vote of 74,599-
