KOPUTARUA NOTES.

(Own Correspondent)

The recent spell of fine weather has been of benefit to all in the district. The following mills are now running : —Porter’s, Higginson’s and Seifert’s at Paiaka, One of the Koputuroa Coy’s mills will start in a few days, when the Burgess patent wash, at present being installed, is ready for work. Gardner Bros’, mill at Paiaka, and the Koputarua Company’s other mill will not run this year. Bevan and MacDonald will start shortly with two strippers, spripping the flax on Mr J. MacDonald’s property. The Koputarua Literary Society closed its winter session with a debate on Unionism. The voting, largely due to the able advocacy of Mr Clark, was in favour of Unionism. A “pound night” and social in a few days will close this year’s proceedings.
