The Manawatu Herald. Thursday, September 9,1909. FREEZING WORKS SITE.
The Wellington Farmers’ Cooperative Freezing Co. has not yet decided upon a site for the proposed works. A press controversy 'is taking place in the Wairarapa papers on the subject. Foxton, of course, was never seriously considered except by one of the directors—the feeling in the Wairarapa being dead against the Foxton site. It may be, in the years to come, that the company will realise that a mistake was made in not deciding upon the local port as a site for the works. Masterton is moving heaven and earth to have the works established at Waingawa, a few miles from its boundary, and its citizens have set to work to absorb worth ot shares—they realise that money talks. We will not be surprised to learn that the works will be erected there- The Lower Wairarapa want none of Masterton. They would not be averse to Woodside, a site about four miles from Greytown, with bountiful water supply and alongside the railway, but their preference is a locality known as Pigeon Bush, a wind-swept desolate spot this side of tlae Rimutakas. Whatever site is decided upon will meet with a fair amount of opposition from certain shareholders and those at the head of affairs will need to adopt a very conciliatory attitude in order to avoid a split.
