THE HEMP INDUSTRY.

LOCAL FIGURES FOR AUGUST. The total number of bales of hemp graded by Mr Petrie at this port, for the month ending 31st August, was five hundred and sixty.

This quantity is a decrease of 840 bales for the month, but against the corresponding mouth for 1908 this total shows an increase of 328 bales. The quality and condition ol lines submitted has been creditable, The figures are: Good fair 387, fair 168, common 5 ; total 560. The present outlook of the industry is very bright.
