CHARGE OF PERJURY.
IN CONNECTION WITH
GAME CASE

At the Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, Rolaud Hayes and William Smith were charged that they committed perjury in the case brought against them recently lor trespassing. SubInspector O’Donovan conducted the case for the Police and the apcpsed defended themselves, Cecil Hewlett, Clerk of the Court, said that he had taken practically all the evidence himself, He then read from his own notes the statement of both men, that John Barr had given them a permit to allow them to shoot on Hugh Akers’ property. Hugh Akers, owner of the property, said that he had issued four permits to Mr Barr, but none to anyone else. William White stated that he saw the two accused on Akers’ property on May and. When asked to show his permit, Smith produced one, but held about five yards off, which he said had been given him by a man named Wilson.
John Barr stated that he had not given any permit to either of the accused.
At this stage the case was ad journed until next Monday.
